The term Glaucoma is used to describe damages on optic nerve due to high intraocular pressure within the eye. Sometimes due to poor drainage system of fluid in the eyes, causes the liquid to accumulated hence create high pressure in the eye. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness for people over 60 years old. But blindness from glaucoma can often be prevented with early treatment. If not earlier detected, the high pressure damage optic nerves and hence lead to vision loss.
Glaucoma can be categorized as open-angle glaucoma and Angle-closure glaucoma. Open-angle glaucoma normally doesn’t not have obvious symptoms in the early stages. As the diseases progresses, blind spots develop in your side vision.
Angle-closure glaucoma patients might experience blurred vision, halos, mild headaches or eye pain. Glaucoma normally accompanies with Aggravated head pain in the morning, blurred vision, pain around the eye, seen light rings around lights in night and gradually narrowing of visual field.
Glaucoma can be surely diagnosed through a complete eye examination. A glaucoma screening that only checks eye pressure is not enough to find out about glaucoma. The glaucoma examination include measuring eye pressure, checking eye’s drainage system, examining optic nerve for damage and test peripheral ( side) vision and measuring thickness of your corneal.
Glaucoma damage cannot be reversed, it’s permanent. Medicine drops, Laser or Surgical treatment help to stop further damage. International eye hospital have full range of equipment to conduct complete test on glaucoma such as high tech microscopes OCT and visual field machines to provide more accuracy results about glaucoma. We also perform surgery to lower intra ocular pressure in case drops couldn’t provide good results.
