Retina is wall inside the eye filled with nerves sensitive to light. When light passes through lens of an eye falls on retina, then from retina signals are transmitted to the brain through optic nerve then translated back as images.
Retina diseases can be caused by other health complications or through heritage and injuries. Retina diseases include Retinal Detachment, Retinal vascular disease, Diabetic –related retinal disease, Retinal congenital disease, Retinal tumors, Macular Hole, Retinal Degeneration, Macular Degeneration and others.
People with diabetes can have an eye condition called diabetic retinopathy. This is when high blood sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels in the retina. These blood vessels can swell and leak, or they can close and stopping blood from passing through or sometimes can cause abnormal growth of new blood vessels on the retina. All these changes causes damage to your vision.
Depending on the type of retinal disorder, medical treatment, laser therapy or surgical treatment may be required. Early detection is the first step of treatment, on top of standard eye examination additional detailed fundus examinations may be recommended. Such Fundus Examinations are as follows: Ocular Coherent Tomography (OCT), Eye angiography (FFA), Visual field, and Biometry.
Retina diseases are very dangerous as can cause permanent blindness if left untreated.
